Grilling season is upon us, and between potential stuck-on grease from last summers' barbecues and all of the burgers, hotdogs and steaks to come, now's the time to have the best grill cleaners on-hand. Whether you're working with a charcoal, gas, portable or indoor grill, keeping your grill clean between uses is extremely important — you don't want to risk flare-ups from left-over grease.
While a great grill brush is essential for keeping your grill spic and span, we talked with grill expert Shawn Hill of The Grilling Dad about why the importance of a good cleaner, too. Below, we've rounded up the top recommendations.
“I get this in the spray form because that makes it easy to clean the grill," says Hill. "It smells good, too. I apply it with a sponge as well as a long-handled brush from Grill Rescue. It doesn’t have bristles. It’s made of the same material as firefighter suits and can stand high heat. I will spray it on there and use it. It’s similar to using a scrubbing pad.”
“If I’m doing a deep clean or if I haven’t used my grill all year, I’ll spray this directly onto the grates,” Hill says. “I’ll make a one-to-one mix of white vinegar and water to cut through the grease and grime. I use it on both the interior and exterior of the grill, too.”
“I’ve got seven kids running around, so I like that it’s okay to use this spray on cooking surfaces. I also appreciate the fact that this spray is eco-friendly, non-toxic and there are no lasting fumes when I use it on my grill.”
“I started using this not too long ago," says Hill. "I like that it’s a 2-in-1 product that works in my oven as well as in my grill. I like products that are this versatile to use indoors and outdoors. Also, it comes with disposable gloves which is extra convenient.”
