Mulled Cider Wine

Ingredients

One 750-milliliter bottle Cabernet Sauvignon

One 12-ounce bottle hard cider 

1 ounce Allspice Simple Syrup, recipe follows

Orange slices, for garnish 

Allspice Simple Syrup:

1/2 cup sugar

5 allspice berries

Directions

  1. Pour the wine, cider and Allspice Simple Syrup into a pitcher or punch bowl. Ladle into glasses. Garnish with orange slices.

Allspice Simple Syrup:

  1. Combine the sugar, allspice and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Turn off the heat and allow the mixture to steep for about 5 minutes. Strain and let cool to room temperature before using.

Another reviewer stated this has too much sugar.....note: it only calls for 1 oz of the syrup.  I just made it and it tastes great!  You can leave the syrup out if it is too sweet.  By the way, I hate sweet drinks.  This is not too sweet even with the syrup.
