Jar

Hearing Rocco DiSpirito scream "Pot roast -- yeah, baby!" on The Best Thing I Ever Ate should be proof enough that Jar's pot roast is unbelievably delicious. Chef Suzanne Tracht calls Jar a modern American chophouse, and like the pot roast, her braised lamb shank is shout-out-loud delectable.

Although Loteria Grill opened as a farmers' market taqueria, they have since opened sit-down locations in Santa Monica, Hollywood, Studio City and Westlake Village, Calif. Luckily for Duff, they carry his favorite chocolate mole, used on enchiladas and burritos and made with 25 ingredients. The Hauchinango Estilo Ensenada tacos are also a standout.

Citizen Cake

On Food Network's $40 a Day, Rachael Ray goes to Citizen Cake, a restaurant, bar and patisserie from Chef Elizabeth Falkner with a recommendation from the Michelin Guide, in San Francisco, CA.

Aziza

Chef Mourad Lahlou humbly displays his Moroccan roots in creating one of Chris Cosentino's favorite wrapped dishes, Basteeya. Lahlou piles braised chicken and an earthy blend of Moroccan spices and nuts inside a crunchy package of phyllo dough. It's just one layer to this exquisite restaurant.

Cafe Jacqueline

It came as no surprise that on The Best Thing I Ever Ate, soufflé-lover Alton named Café Jacqueline for the best in strawberry soufflés. Owner and Chef Jacqueline Margulis does "nothing else" but make flawless soufflés, specializing in flavors like chocolate to Gruyere.

Blue Bottle Coffee Bar at SFMOMA

Thankfully, all the art at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is not relegated to the walls. On The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Chris Cosentino eats works of art at the rooftop coffee bar, home to the delectable chocolate Mondrian Cake, Frida Kahlo Mexican Wedding Cookies and even Rothko Toast.

On The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Tyler Florence says Chef Chris Cosentino is leading the salumi revolution on the West Coast. All of Cosentino's meats are expertly cured, bringing out a perfect salty flavor. Join the revolution with a Mess Piggy panini with pulled pork or a custom salumi cone.

On The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Aida Mollenkamp swoons over Bi-Rite's Sam's Sundae made with German cocoa, Bergamot olive oil and Maldon sea salt. Local dairy Straus Organic Dairy provides the freshest milk not just for Bi-Rite's famous sundaes but for their decadent ice cream cakes, too.

Anchor & Hope

Thanks to Iron Chef Japan, Chef Sara Schafer cracked open a sea urchin and concocted the most melt-in-your-mouth dish: warm sea urchin with Dungeness crab. Just ask Aida Mollenkamp, as she was instantly hooked. Not hungry for urchin? Try the infamous Angels on Horseback or Lobster Rolls on Brioche.

Donovan's Steak & Chop House

1 Reviews

On The Best Thing I Ever Ate, Troy Johnson patiently waits till 4 p.m. for his favorite dish at Donovan's Steak & Chop House. Although Donovan's is known for luscious steak and a creme brulee that's to die for, come 4 p.m., diners flock to Donovan's for the free Philly cheesesteak sandwiches.

Dobson's Bar & Restaurant

1 Reviews

Located in downtown San Diego, Dobson's Bar has been crafting the California food scene since 1984. As a child, Marcela Valladolid would cross from Tijuana to San Diego for the "grownup" Mussel Bisque en Croute made with lobster, shrimp, puff pastry and the perfect drizzling of cream sherry on top.

For breakfast-lover Bobby, a classic French toast may be good, but the Peanut Butter and Banana Stuffed French Toast at Café 222 deserves a spot on The Best Thing I Ever Ate. On a menu of breakfast classics of pancakes and eggs, the Pumpkin Waffle also deserves a mention as a local favorite.

Grant Grill

The Smashing Pumpkin from Grant Grill is a seasonal drink, so as soon as it’s available, Troy Johnson gives thanks. Located inside the historic US GRANT Hotel, Grant Grill has become a San Diego institution not only for its pumpkin-rum cocktail, but also for the signature Mock Turtle Soup.

Johnny Garlic's

Only at Guy's restaurant can you get a little Italian, Mexican, Cajun and Asian. The grilled-onion-and-garlic tortilla stack, inspired by Guy's mom, has "dynamite" texture and flavor. Guy's Sashimi Won Tacos dressed with eel sauce were double gold winners at the Sonoma County Harvest Fair.

The Waffle

At The Waffle, expect waffles and then some. Everything from the lemon blueberry waffles to the smoked salmon waffle tastes out-of-this world. But as Susan Feniger suggests, you must try the "better than mine" Red Velvet Waffle with cream cheese frosting. Who knew breakfast could be this sweet?

On the Road with Guy

Host Guy Fieri driving his convertible down State Street in Santa Barbara, California, takes a cross-country road trip to visit some of America's classic "greasy spoon" restaurants - diners, drive-ins and dives - that have been doing it right for decades as seen on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.

Let Guy take you on a coast-to-coast tour Friday at 9|8c.
