Taming the Sweetness

"This is going to be ... really, really, really sweet. Maybe even sweeter than you three," jokes Ted. But he really means the basket ingredients of banana pudding, vanilla ice cream, icing and brownie mix. Both Alex and Chris agree that taking it down a savory route is the only way to go. Geoffrey, however, disagrees.

No Waffling Around

"I'm going right at the sweetness," Geoffrey tells the others. "It's dessert." Ted sees Geoffrey's using the brownie mix in a waffle maker. "I'm making chocolate brownie waffles, baby," exclaims Geoffrey. Ted also notices rum and bourbon on Geoffrey's station, which will go into a boozy banana milkshake.

Americana Reinvented

"Baskets like this that have a lot of familiar Americana are actually the toughest," Alex tells Ted. "In a way you could kind of just put all this together and be done," she says, but that's not the challenge. Much like Chris, she's aiming to break up the sweetness, cooking down the icing with dried cherries.

Competitive Camaraderie

"Are you making ice cream? That is not fair," Geoffrey says, going over to Alex as she extracts her Creamsicle-inspired sherbet, made with orange juice and the vanilla ice cream. "This is the real deal, ladies and gentlemen," says Geoffrey as he tastes her new flavor.

If at First You Don't Succeed

"I was on Chopped All-Stars once," says Chris, who reminds Ted he was chopped after the first round. "I made a quesadilla, and I still stand by that dish." Chris decides to microwave the brownie mix for a dessert quesadilla. "Sounds like a fully baked idea," says Ted, but Chris is aiming for a "half-baked" brownie.

On the Fiery Side

"I don't know Alex, somehow you look happier when you're burning something with a torch," Ted tells her as she brulees sliced bananas. "I'm angry, Ted," she says, probably because he just described her sherbet as having a "mashed potato consistency." Her retort: "I like when you're on Team Alex."

Copycatting in the Kitchen

"What is up with the color of this icing?" shouts Chris, not expecting to find it pink. "This is not what I wanted," he exclaims, combining it with marshmallow fluff to top his quesadillas. Chris decides to brulee the tops, like Alex did with her bananas and Geoffrey did with the marshmallows on top of his milkshake.

Transformative Sweets

"You made something sophisticated from four ingredients that had nothing to do with sophistication," Chris tells Alex about her dish. "You're whimsical even when you're dealing with scoops of caviar," Alex tells Geoffrey of his combination. "You did a really nice job of taming that vivid lipstick-red color," Ted tells Chris.
