In the baking battle of the century, cake masters Duff Goldman and Buddy Valastro have gone head-to-head over the course of five weeks. The competition is shaping up to be a battle between avant-garde and tradition. In one corner, Buddy brings out his tried-and-true techniques and in the other, Duff takes chances and tries to wow on experimentation.

Nowhere is this contrast more evident than in the wedding cake battle. Buddy created a traditional, multi-tiered wedding cake with all of the frills design for the over-the-top bride, while Duff suspended a whimsical, under-the-sea wedding cake from the ceiling modeled after his fiancee Johnna.

Browse all their cakes below and relive what each baker has brought to the competition. Don't miss the finale of Buddy Vs. Duff on Sunday at 9|8c to see who is crowned the king of cake!

"When you're making a smaller cake, you're focusing more on the detail, not so much the size," Duff said. When a cake is too big, there's too much surface area to try to deal with." To demonstrate his dedication to technique, Duff hand-painted all the detail on the side panels of the lowrider.

To make his elephant cake pop, Duff wanted to cover it entirely in gold leaf. "Gold leaf is super, super, super thin," he said. "Whatever the texture is underneath it, that is exactly what you're gonna see on the outside. I want this to look like a statue," he said. "I don't want it to look like a cake that looks like a statue."

“Everything I do has a story. There’s a reason behind everything,” said Duff. “I think the most challenging part of building this dog is going to be carving its anatomy. I really want this dog to be very alive.”

Cake #4: Matrimony Madness - Win

Duff modeled his wedding cake after his bride-to-be. "I want to design a cake for me and Johnna because we're about to get married," said Duff. "When you have a single muse, one person, whatever your vision, whatever you're trying to get across comes through so much clearer."

"We're gonna put on a magic show, "Duff said. "I have a box that I'm gonna stuff Geof in. Half of that lid is going to be cake. That's the only cake here. All the decorations on the outside of the box are all going to be fondant and gum paste. Then, we need to make a bunny levitate out of a hat and then I gotta do a card trick."

"We're going to do some stenciling, we're going to do some gold cake lace, and we're going to do some pressed molds," Buddy said. We're pulling out all the bells and whistles here, because I want the world to know we have range."

“This is cake is pretty phenomenal. I think I won this one,” said Buddy as they arrived at the dog resort. ‘My favorite part is the Frenchie,” said Christina. “How did you get the bone to balance?” Buddy's dog cake got high marks for playfulness, depth of texture and movement. “Buddy surprised me with attention to detail today,” said Keegan.

Cake #4: Matrimony Madness - Loss

"Wedding cakes is what I was born and bred on. I'm not worried about it," said Buddy. "When I think of a cake, I want to make a cake that I think is for every bride, not just one."

Buddy wanted to bring some actual magic to his magician-inspired cake. "I'd like there to be some sort of trick in the cake," Buddy said. "By creating a mirrored illusion where it spins, you're gonna see a cake. Then there's not a cake. It's a cake. It's not a cake. It's magic."
