Chocolate Cherry Dump Cake

This elegant dessert is not your typical dump cake: Rich chocolate cake is covered with glossy cherry filling and sprinkled with toasted almonds — reminiscent of a Black Forest cake. It's a simple and flavorful crowd-pleaser.

1 1/2 sticks (12 tablespoons) unsalted butter

Two 21-ounce cans cherry pie filling

One 15.25-ounce box chocolate cake mix

1/4 cup toasted sliced almonds

Whipped cream, for serving

  1. Put the butter in a 9-by-13-inch baking dish and place it in the oven while it preheats. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. When the butter is melted, remove the baking dish from the oven and add the cake mix. Stir to combine. Pour the cherry pie filling on top and spread it out evenly. Bake until the cake is set, about 1 hour. Let cool 20 minutes. Top with toasted almonds. Serve with whipped cream.
