This weeknight pasta recipe will satisfy your cravings for both mac and cheese and a rich pasta with meat sauce. The meaty tomato-based sauce is quickly cooked in a skillet and finished with a little cream. Simply toss in cooked elbows and shower with Parmesan and fresh basil.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the macaroni and cook as the label directs. Drain and set aside.
  2. Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes. Add the garlic and cook 1 minute; season with salt and pepper. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and no longer pink, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the tomato paste and oregano to the skillet and cook, stirring, until well mixed and darkened slightly, about 30 seconds. Stir in the tomatoes with their juices and cook until the mixture thickens, about 4 minutes. Stir in the heavy cream and cook until thickened, about 2 more minutes; season with salt and pepper.
  4. Add the cooked macaroni to the meat sauce. Stir until everything is combined and the pasta is coated. Divide the pasta among bowls. Top with grated Parmesan and basil.
