Broken Shaker mixologist Gabriel Orta says the key to a great cocktail starts with the ingredients—such as freshly squeezed orange juice and a liqueur making a comeback from the 1920s, Cherry Heering. (Movie buffs may recognize this cocktail's name, which comes from the 1922 movie Blood and Sand, starring Rudolph Valentino.)
Add equal parts Scotch, vermouth, cherry liqueur, and orange juice to a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker with ice cubes. Cover and shake briefly, about 10 seconds. Uncover and, using a strainer, pour the cocktail into a coupe glass. Garnish with a few cherries skewered through a cocktail toothpick. Serve immediately.
