The Day in the Life of Pepper Teigen

Stream Pepper’s Food Network special, Getting Spicy with Pepper Teigen, on discovery+ now.

Cookbook author Pepper Teigen reveals what she eats during a busy day with her daughter Chrissy and family.

6:30 a.m.

My grandson Miles is calling for me, “Yai, Yai!” He comes into my room and we snuggle and play. Then I make myself a cup of coffee. I can drink any brand of high-end or instant coffee so long as I mix it with powdered creamer and sugar cubes. I love my coffee in the morning!

7:30 a.m.

I make breakfast for Miles and my granddaughter Luna. Today it’s jok moo, one of
their favorites.

8:30 a.m.

The children leave for school and I get on the treadmill for an hour. I feel better once I get my heart pumping.

9:30 a.m.

I take a shower and get ready for the day. To start, I drink my usual green juice.

11 a.m.

I make lunch for myself and whoever is over at the house. Everyone loves my pad Thai. Chrissy usually likes me to make her a Thai fried egg with spicy fish sauce and garlic. We get a bunch of veggies and mushrooms weekly from Flamingo Estate in Los Angeles that are perfect for the mushroom yum in my book, The Pepper Thai Cookbook. I like to take leftovers from the fridge and see what I can make. Leftover steak is great for my Thai steak salad.

1 p.m.

I go to Bangluck Market and Silom Supermarket in L.A.’s Thai Town and get ingredients for dinner. My son-in-law John’s mother and aunt are visiting, so we spend some time together. John’s mom, Phyllis, and I are very close — we went on a trip to Thailand together!

3 p.m.

The children come home from a playdate. Of course I make sure there’s enough food for everyone.

5 p.m.

I start to prep dinner. This is such a happy time. The children are easy to please
and love everything from my cookbook as long as the food is not spicy. Miles’s favorite is ribs, and Luna loves broccoli and beef and all kinds of noodles. She also loves to help me in the kitchen — she reminds me so much of Chrissy as a little girl. She was always in the kitchen with me.

6:30 p.m.

The children take a bath and get ready for bed. I read them Thai fables, which
always have a funny moral at the end. Then Luna and I pretend to host a talk show. We record it and act like we have a big audience watching us. We tell them, “Don’t forget to click like and subscribe,” and I send the clip to John and Chrissy.

9 p.m.

I end the day with a can of Stella Artois while I watch Dateline and check in with my friends in Thailand. It’s relaxing, but kissing the kids good night is always my favorite time of day.
