Star Kitchen: Catherine McCord
Food Network Kitchen app star Catherine McCord invites us into her Los Angeles kitchen.
In the McCord family, there are never too many cooks in the kitchen. Catherine McCord — a fixture on the Food Network Kitchen app and a judge on Guy’s Grocery Games — has some reliable line cooks at home, including her husband Jonathan and three kids: Kenya, 14, Chloe, 12, and Gemma, 5. “Every single inch of our kitchen gets used,” she says. Like many families, the McCords have spent much of the last year in their house, and they’ve put this space — which includes double ovens, a six-burner range and a griddle — to use like never before. Catherine preps 20 meals a week (and snacks) for the family, plus she develops and tests all the recipes for her website, Weelicious. She also films classes for the Food Network Kitchen app here rather than on a set — and she has come to love the change: She knows exactly where to find all of her ingredients and equipment! “As much as I miss seeing friends at work, it’s fun being in the comfort of my own home,” she says.
Drawers for All: Catherine keeps her family’s most-used pantry staples like cereal and oatmeal in drawers so they’re easy for everyone to access.
Double Dishwashers: Between developing cookbooks and training three young chefs at home, Catherine goes through a lot of dishes. She installed two full-size Miele dishwashers to handle the volume.
Packed Freezer: A big freezer was a top priority: This Sub-Zero is nearly six feet tall. “It’s one of my favorite pieces of equipment because I freeze everything, like waffles, pancakes and smoothies,” she says.
Window View: The kitchen looks onto the backyard, where the McCords have planted 10 fruit trees and a passion fruit vine.
