Make the sour mix: Bring the sugar and 1/2 cup water to a boil in a saucepan, stirring to dissolve. Stir in the lemon and lime juice, then let cool completely; store in the refrigerator.
Combine the tequila, pomegranate liqueur and sour mix in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until very cold, 10 to 15 seconds.
Strain the drink into a glass filled with ice. Top with the blood orange soda and garnish with the blood orange slice.
