With malls across America closing, you can still have the taste of days gone by without looking for parking in a lot several times the size of a football field. Feel free to sprinkle flaky salt on these before baking and skip the buttery finish, then serve them with my favorite savory pretzel partner: a vat of yellow mustard.

Directions
Special equipment:
nonstick aluminum foil
Sprinkle some flour on a cutting board and roll out the pizza dough to a little under 1/4-inch thick, making a rectangle. Cut 1-inch-wide strips. To make a pretzel shape, roll each strip into a rope, then bring both ends of the rope together and twist them around each other, pointing outside of the loop, twice; flip the ends over the twist and back down to the inside of the loop and secure the ends by gently pinching them together with the loop. Repeat to make the rest.
Line a baking sheet with nonstick aluminum foil. In a medium pot, add 5 cups water and the baking soda. Bring to a gentle boil. Add a pretzel and let boil for 30 to 45 seconds. Remove with a slotted spatula, shaking off the water, then add to the prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the rest of the pretzels, leaving about an inch between each on the baking sheet.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Brush the top of each pretzel with the egg. Bake until golden, 12 to 15 minutes. Finish each with a brush of butter and a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar. Serve with the caramel and chocolate sauces to dunk or drizzle over the top.
