Antonia Lofaso Is Finally Home: Get a Taste of Her Bold Kitchen

For the majority of Antonia Lofaso’s life, she poured all of her energy into creating experiences for other people. She’s a restaurateur, a chef, a mother, as well as a seasoned Food Network host, mentor, competitor and judge. “This is the first time — and I’ll be 49 this year — that I’ve created a space for just myself,” Antonia says of the newly renovated kitchen in her Las Vegas home. “A space that feels like my salvation. To me, it’s like having the privilege of eating the greatest dish every single day — the one that was made just for me.”

Antonia tapped HGTV designer and Sin City Rehab host Alison Victoria to give her 4,000-square-foot home — most notably the kitchen — some character. It was a natural pairing of network darlings, both of whom have an obsession with the color black. Antonia, always clad in an all-black ensemble on Food Network, is a perfect complement to Alison, who uses black paint in almost all of her designs.

Alison worked in tandem with Antonia's father, a general contractor. In fact, Antonia, her partner, Greg, and her father lived — as in slept on mattresses, cooked and did laundry together — in the home's garage throughout the five-month renovation. "She's this super-famous chef cooking meals for everyone in her garage … I can't," laughs Alison.

Obviously, Antonia's kitchen had to be black — and Alison was more than ready to give it to her. "Antonia trusted the process," says Alison. "I get her. She trusted me. It was beautiful." The room's footprint was the only aspect of the space that remained the same. Alison swathed the rest of it in bold textures: leathered black granite for the countertops and backsplash, butcher block on the island and a chocolate-brown hood vent.

"It was cool to learn from a very famous chef how she likes her kitchen," says Alison, who added a second, hidden trash can to the left of the range per Antonia's request. "The way she functions in the kitchen is the way I created the kitchen."

Atop the kitchen island, sleek and storied carry equal weight. “I had a vision,” says Alison of the fruit-filled vintage food scale.

Tears fell when Alison unveiled the star of the space, a 48-inch Nova Series BlueStar range (with eight burners) in matte black. Simple, black shaker lower cabinets surround the range and act as a sleek canvas for antique brass hardware. “And, to be clear,” Antonia declared, “no one touches the stove.”

In matte black and brass, the 36-inch Pro Built-In BlueStar refrigerator matches the range.

The channeled banquette in the breakfast nook adjacent to the kitchen can fit up to seven people comfortably, which is necessary for Antonia, who likes to cook and entertain. The marble and iron bistro table is from Kathy Kuo Home, and the industrial pendant is from Visual Comfort.
