Doritos 3D are returning to supermarket shelves later this month, though the three-dimensional snack will look and taste a tad different than it did about 20 years ago, when it was last sold across the country.

Frito-Lay, the makers of Doritos 3D, announced Monday that starting on December 21, the fan-favorite (complete with a little revamp) will be making its triumphant return as Doritos 3D Crunch. While Doritos 3D were sold in Jalapeno Cheddar, Nacho Cheese and Zesty Ranch flavors, Doritos 3D Crunch, which will boast the same iconic three-dimensional shape, will be sold in Chili Cheese Nacho and Spicy Ranch varieties. The chip bags will also get a bit of an update.

What’s more? Frito-Lay plans to usher Doritos 3D Crunch into its lineup of beloved snacks with a nod to the original Doritos 3D, which were launched in a game day commercial starring actress Ali Landry in 1998.

Landry, who became known as “Doritos Girl” after the spot aired, is partnering with the brand to launch a nationwide challenge. Paying homage to the original “Laundromat” commercial — in which the Me Again star caught Doritos 3D in her mouth as they shot out of a washing machine — Landry will ask fans to catch Doritos 3D in their mouth in the boldest ways possible. Fans are encouraged to check out the #Doritos3DChallenge on TikTok starting December 28.

The long-awaited return of this salty snack comes after months of speculation that Doritos 3D were being primed for a comeback. Additionally, online users have voiced their desire for the chip’s return via social media posts and popular petitions.

If you simply can’t wait for the debut of Doritos 3D Crunch, head to orderdoritos3d.com to get your hands on the product before it hits shelves nationally.

While 2020 hasn’t exactly been the best year, it has been a banner year for beloved ’90s snacks. In addition to Doritos 3D Crunch, Dunkaroos made their long-awaited return to stores in May. Long live the ’90s!
