This year, the holidays will look a lot different compared to years past, as social distancing concerns and inability to gather with friends and family make just about everything feel less festive and merry.
But one holiday tradition will remain – and that’s the annual return of the McDonald’s McRib. But this year, it’ll be extra exciting because rather than returning only in selected regional locations, it’ll be making a comeback nationwide. The McRib, which will be in stores for a limited time beginning December 2, will be available across the country for the first time since 2012.
The sandwich, known to make a limited return around the holidays each year, debuted onto McDonald’s menus in 1982 and has since become beloved for its seasoned boneless pork slathered in smoky, tangy barbecue sauce, topped with slivered onions and tart pickles. However, this year, when the holidays are slated to stray from tradition, it’s nice to know some things are not only staying the same – but somehow getting better.
This sandwich has garnered such a cult following over the years that at one point, fans created a McRib locator website to help people track down where their favorite sandwich could be found. For some, although hours away, making the trek for a McRib was well worth the long drive.
“The McRib has been a beloved menu item at McDonald’s since its inception nearly 40 years ago,” said Vice President of Menu Innovation, Linda VanGosen in a press release. “There’s nothing quite like the taste of the McRib. To our customers, it’s become more than a delicious, saucy moment… it’s a season, and it’s taking the internet by storm. That’s why this year, we’re proud to serve the McRib nationwide for everyone to enjoy.”
It's about time there was some good news out there.
