McDonald’s McRib Is Making Its Triumphant Return on November 1
It’s the sauciest season of the year!
The McRib is back, baby! McDonald’s announced today that the iconic sandwich will be returning to menus nationwide beginning November 1, for a limited time. The occasion just so happens to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the debut of the beloved dish.
While it’s hard to believe that the McRib made its debut four decades ago, the saucy sandwich quickly became a customer favorite thanks to the unmistakable flavor of the seasoned boneless pork patty, which, for those unfamiliar with the McRib, is slathered in a whole bunch of perfectly tangy BBQ sauce.
What’s more? The meaty meal is topped with slivered onions, tart dill pickles and served on a thick homestyle bun. Drooling yet?!
“In the 80s, the masterminds behind McDonald’s food innovation had a truly unique idea: an undeniably delicious sandwich that could be enjoyed during the colder seasons,” Mike Bullington, Senior Archives Manager at McDonald’s, said in a statement. “Whether you’re a McRib loyalist or first timer, there is no denying that the McRib is one of the most iconic sandwiches of the last four decades and we have thousands of emails and tweets from fans to prove it.”
The McRib, which debuted in 1981, started as a regional dish in Kansas City, Kansas. It catapulted to international fame when it was paired with the promotion of a major motion picture — 1994’s The Flintstones, naturally. Equally tasty innovations such as the McRib Jr. followed, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Since its launch, the McRib has become an international sensation that has appeared in countries such as Germany, New Zealand and France. Additionally, the launch of social media solidified the McRib’s status as one of the few menu items with a cult-like following.
Today, there are tools such as the McRib locator, which helps customers locate the elusive dish. And the hype around the meal’s annual return has introduced the phrase “McRib Season” into the global lexicon.
To get your hands on a McRib, visit a participating McDonald’s restaurant on November 1. The meal will be available via carry-out, at the drive thru, on the McDonald’s App and through McDelivery. Will you be ordering a McRib (or two) this fall?
