Too Busy to Cook? I Tried Thistle's Meal Delivery Service to See If It's Worth the Hype
From ready-to-eat breakfasts to protein-packed dinners, I tested Thistle's meal delivery service to see if it delivers on convenience.
Thistle
As a college student home for the summer, I know how difficult it can be to figure out what to eat for every meal. Between summer classes, work and family obligations, cooking every day can feel overwhelming. That's where meal delivery services come in, offering ready-to-eat meals tailored to a variety of dietary preferences. To see if it's worth the hype, I tested Thistle for a week to evaluate its convenience, affordability and, most importantly, flavor.
What Is Thistle?
Thistle is a prepared meal delivery service that ships directly to your door, offering customizable options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Deliveries arrive once or twice a week, and the menu is refreshed weekly with a mix of new and returning favorites. Most meals are ready to eat upon arrival, while others require only a quick reheat.
The brand also emphasizes sustainability. Meals arrive in reusable insulated bags that can be returned with future deliveries. Nutrition is another key focus, with both plant-based and meat protein options available. According to Thistle, breakfasts contain at least 10 grams of protein, while lunches and dinners offer 20 grams or more. Meals also provide 10 to 15 grams of fiber and are free of dairy, gluten, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, additives and dyes.

How We Tested
To evaluate Thistle, I placed an order for a full week of meals and selected a variety of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack options. I intentionally chose a mix of dishes to get a better sense of the menu offerings available that week.
My order arrived within a few days in reusable insulated bags packed with ice packs, and everything arrived intact and well chilled. Over the course of the week, I sampled each meal, heating those that required it, to assess the service's convenience, quality and overall flavor.

What We Loved About Thistle
Easy-to-Prepare Meals
One of Thistle's biggest advantages is convenience. Because the meals arrive fully prepared, there's very little work involved. Most dinner options require just a few minutes in a pan, while breakfasts and lunches are ready to eat straight from the fridge. After a long day of work, classes or other responsibilities, having a meal that's nearly effortless to prepare can be a major time-saver.

Customizable Options
Thistle puts a strong emphasis on personalization. The service allows you to tailor your meal plan based on your dietary preferences and nutrition goals, whether you're looking for protein-packed dishes, fiber-rich meals or plant-based options. One feature I appreciated was the ability to browse the menu before committing to a subscription, making it easier to determine whether the service is a good fit.
Thistle
Plenty of Variety Each Week
Variety is another standout feature. The weekly menu spans a range of meal types and cuisines, from hearty pasta dishes and fresh salads to energy bites and breakfast options with a sweeter twist. Because the menu changes regularly, there's always something new to try. Thistle also incorporates trend-forward flavors and nutrient-dense ingredients, helping meals feel both satisfying and thoughtfully curated.
What We Didn't Love About Thistle
Not Ideal for Families
Thistle is best suited for individuals or smaller households. While the service offers plenty of flexibility and customization, the cost can add up quickly when ordering meals for an entire family. Because plans are designed around individual preferences and portion sizes, larger households may find it more challenging to rely on Thistle for every meal.
Occasional Delivery Issues
While my meals always arrived well packaged and in good condition, the delivery experience wasn't always seamless. There were a few instances when deliveries were delayed or missed without a clear explanation. Because Thistle delivers only once or twice a week, a missed delivery can be particularly inconvenient, potentially leaving customers without their planned meals until the next scheduled drop-off.

Bottom Line: Is Thistle Worth It?
For busy college students, young professionals or anyone juggling a packed schedule, Thistle is a convenient way to keep nutritious meals on hand without spending hours in the kitchen. The service delivers directly to your door once or twice a week and offers a wide variety of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack options tailored to different dietary preferences.
While the service may not be the most budget-friendly option for larger households, it's a worthwhile investment for individuals seeking convenience, variety and balanced meals. If your schedule leaves little time for meal planning, grocery shopping or cooking, Thistle can help take the stress out of eating well.
