There is nothing better than a cold and creamy milkshake to round out a meal. My blackberry milkshake has a fresh blackberry sauce to add just the right fruity flavor. Of course, you can use any fresh berry or fruit you would like to make this milkshake your own.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Remove the ice cream from the freezer to let it start to thaw while making the blackberry sauce; the ice cream should be slightly softened without being runny.
  2. To a small pot, add the blackberries, jam, sugar, lemon juice and 1/4 cup water and stir together. Cook over medium heat until the blackberries start to break down and the sauce starts to cook down and thicken, 7 to 10 minutes.
  3. In a small bowl, make a cornstarch slurry with the cornstarch and 1 tablespoon water. Add the slurry to the blackberry sauce and mix together over medium-low heat until the sauce has become nappant (coats the back of a spoon).
  4. Strain the sauce, pushing the blackberry flesh through and leaving the seeds behind. Set the sauce aside in the freezer until cool to the touch, 10 to 15 minutes.
  5. To a blender, add the ice cream, heavy cream and half of the blackberry sauce. Blend together until everything is fully blended.
  6. Line the milkshake glasses with the blackberry sauce, draping it along the sides to make a swirled design. Pour the milkshake into the glasses and top with whipped cream, if using.
