3 cups water

1 2 cup white grits, not instant

1 tablespoon salt

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese


  1. Heat water to a boil and gradually stir in grits. Add salt and reduce heat to low. Cook stirring constantly until tender about 10 minutes. Grits should be thick and not runny. Stir in cheese and serve warm.
