Inspired by the classic red, white and blue firecracker ice pop, these Jell-O shots are just as festive to look at as they are to knock back. Two flavors of vodka-laced gelatin are layered in each shot glass and topped with fluffy whipped cream and sweet popping candy for extra zing. And they’re super-convenient for hosting: You can prep the gelatin base up to a week ahead, then decorate just before serving for maximum effect.

Ingredients

Directions

Special equipment:
sixteen 2-ounce plastic cups with lids
  1. Bring 1 cup water to a boil in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Place the flavored red gelatin in a heat-resistant 2-cup glass measuring cup. Carefully pour the boiling water over the gelatin and whisk until dissolved. Add 2/3 cup vodka and whisk to combine.
  2. Arrange sixteen 2-ounce (1/4-cup) glasses with lids on a small sheet pan. Pour 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of the red gelatin mixture into each cup. Place the sheet pan in the refrigerator until set, at least 1 hour.
  3. Bring another 1 cup water to a boil in the small saucepan. Place the flavored blue gelatin in a clean heat-resistant 2-cup glass measuring cup. Carefully pour the boiling water over the gelatin and whisk until dissolved. Add the remaining 2/3 cup vodka and whisk to combine.
  4. Remove the chilled cups from the refrigerator and pour 1 ounce (2 tablespoons) of the blue gelatin mixture over the set red gelatin in each glass. Cover the shots with the lids and return the sheet pan to the refrigerator until the shots are fully set, at least 2 hours. You can make the shots up to 1 week in advance at this point.
  5. When ready to serve, remove the lids from the shot glasses. Top each shot with whipped cream, sprinkle with popping candy and serve immediately.
