This classic Persian banana and date shake can be found virtually anywhere in Iran. Every majoon shop has its own twist on how to prepare it, but the naturally sweetened base is usually dates, bananas and milk. Sometimes desiccated coconut, nuts or even a scoop of ice cream are added, and it's usually topped with even more nuts and coconut. Iranians often order it to-go, as it’s a tasty, natural alternative to energy drinks.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Slice the bananas and add them to a blender. Add the milk, coconut, walnuts, cinnamon and dates and blend until combined, about 1 minute. Divide between 2 glasses, top with shredded coconut, chopped walnuts and pistachios, sesame seeds and a sprinkle of cinnamon and serve immediately.

Cook’s Note

Because bananas are a key ingredient, this drink is best served immediately. If refrigerated, the texture and consistency might change.
