This Genius New Cheerios Packaging Could Be a Game Changer
The cereal brand made a simple update fans have requested for years.
Whether you mentally file this news under “finally!” or “things I didn’t know I wanted until I had them” will depend on your perspective and prescience. Either way, Cheerios fans will be pleased to know the cereal brand is coming out with a major packaging improvement.
Cheerios has teamed up with Ziploc to offer cereal boxes with resealable bags inside. Apparently the move comes in response to “hundreds of thousands of requests, comments and reactions” Cheerios customers send annually demanding this innovation.
The new resealable internal bags will make it “easier to pour, reseal and help keep cereal fresher longer,” the cereal brand says.
“General Mills has received letters, emails and DMs asking for an easier way to reseal a cereal box, and we decided it was time to partner with the ultimate freshness brand: Ziploc,” Emilie Knox, vice president and business unit director for Cheerios at General Mills, says in a statement. “Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal takes a small, everyday cereal frustration and finally gives consumers the simple solution they’ve been asking for, making the whole routine easier and more enjoyable.”
What is Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal?
The “first resealable bag inside a traditional cereal box,” Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal provides an efficient way to keep cereal fresh, rather than folding, rolling or clipping the bag — or decanting your cereal into another container altogether.
Beyond ease of storage, the bag is also designed for greater ease of pouring. Opening only part-way across the top, the bag then creates a “pour spout,” offering greater convenience as you fill a bowl (or mug, or whatever receptacle you’re aiming for).
I can honestly say, if this resealable bag’s easy-pour design prevents cereal spillage on the table, counter and floor, that’s a big win.
“Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal is an exciting new expression of what Ziploc Brand can do — bringing our resealable freshness expertise directly into the Cheerios package and Ziploc Brand into the pantry in an entirely new way,” a Ziploc Brand spokesperson says in a press release.
Where can you find Cheerios with Ziploc PantrySeal?
The new resealable-bag-within-a-box option will offer “an easier way to open, pour, reseal — and keep enjoying” for both Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios eaters starting October 27. (It sounds like the traditional boxes will continue to be available, and these will just be another choice.)
Initially, the new packaging will be available only on Walmart.com with a nationwide rollout to other retailers to follow in the coming months.
