Hormel’s New Packaging Solves Bacon’s Messy Storage Problem

No more handling the whole pack when you just need a few slices.

Buying in bulk often seems like a good financial idea. But sometimes the effort of storing food to keep it fresh, or at least less messy once a package is open, can feel a bit overwhelming. And that goes for smaller households, too, where buying “bulk” might just mean the regular sized package on the grocery shelf. However, if you plan on buying bacon in the near future, Hormel Black Label has a solution to help spread out servings and even keep your meat drawer tidy.

What is Hormel Black Label Portion Pack Bacon?

Hormel Black Label is taking its signature Original Bacon and repackaging it into three smaller portions. Each section of this new trio of Hormel Black Label Portion Pack Bacon contains four slices of bacon, and all three are attached via perforations, making it possible to fry up a few pieces without opening an entire package.

Often, plastic sleeves of bacon don’t reseal in any way, leaving you to toss the leftovers into some separate zipped bag or container, especially if you’re only making breakfast or a BLT for one person. Portion Pack Bacon attempts to eliminate that issue by allowing you to open just as much bacon as you need while keeping the rest totally sealed up until next time.

How much bacon is in Hormel Black Label Portion Packs?

Each unit of Hormel Black Label Portion Pack Bacon contains a total 12 ounces of bacon, working out to 12 slices. According to Hormel’s nutrition label, a serving of bacon is two slices, so each portioned pack contains two servings.

Price-wise, Hormel Black Label’s announcements suggest the packs will be sold for $5.97 to $6.97, putting them almost on par with a full pound of bacon in traditional packaging.

Where is Hormel Black Label Portion Pack Bacon available?

As of this writing, Hormel Black Label Portion Pack bacon is available nationwide starting today at “select Walmart, Meijer and Albertsons locations.” A Hormel Black Label spokesperson told me an expanded rollout to other stores in anticipated in early 2027.
