There’s something about a tart berry with the rich notes of chocolate that makes sense. Cherries and strawberries are just as delicious as raspberries, and if you can find them freeze-dried, it’s worth a try here. These are simple, yet unique enough to sell at a bake sale and become the talk of the town. Let them cool completely before slicing.

Directions
Special equipment:
8x8 inch pan
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8-inch square baking dish with cooking spray and line with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, add the cake mix, butter and raspberries. Mix completely using a hand mixer or a fork (it will be a tight mix). Add a tablespoon or two of water to help it come together if needed. Press half the batter into the prepared baking dish. Bake to set the base, 10 to 12 minutes.
Meanwhile, in a pot on medium heat, add the root beer and cook until it reduces by three-quarters and becomes a bit thicker and syrupy, 8 to 10 minutes. Add the preserves and stir. Pour over the base.
Dollop bits of the remaining cake batter all over the top, then sprinkle with the chocolate chips. Return to the oven and bake until the top is set, about 15 more minutes. Cool before serving.
