Ten bakers explore the Chemistry Laboratory at Henson Labs, where the safety rating is negative 35. Lately, the spirits who haunt the lab have been demolishing all the beakers and petri dishes, so host John Henson leans into this devastation and tasks the bakers with creating broken glass desserts that feature sugar glass. Then, there's been a horrible spill in the Chem Lab, so John has a little fun with it and asks the bakers to create sinister bubbling desserts inspired by the toxic mess. Judges Carla Hall, Zac Young and Stephanie Boswell test their poison tolerance before sending one baker to the cryo-freeze.
The competition kicks off as host Jesse Palmer asks the twelve bakers to embrace the seasonal transition by making fall and winter doughnuts. In this bloody terrifying premiere, host John Henson welcomes 10 bakers to the worst vacation rental of all time, a haunted mansion, with a gift basket of fruit ... that is dripping blood. Judges Carla Hall, Zac Young and Stephanie Boswell determine which pulsing sweet treat wins $1,000. Then, the bottom three bakers must bake for their lives by creating witch symbol desserts designed to ward off evil spirits in the house. In the end, one baker is eliminated.
Things keep turning into other things in the Research and Development Lab, and it's disturbingly delicious. John Henson pairs up the bakers into research teams, and they use exotic candy corn flavors as inspiration for lab specimen-stuffed desserts decorated with tongues, eyeballs, noses or toes. With elimination looming, the bakers serve judges Carla Hall, Zac Young and Stephanie Boswell a mad menagerie of cutesy-to-creepy desserts by turning an adorable stuffy into a delicious, mutated monster.
The Festival of Lights ignites creativity in the pre-heat, when the five bakers have to update traditional rugelach with unexpected new flavors like cardamom, grapefruit, guava paste, peanut butter or chai. For the main heat, the judges are craving their favorite ingredients in the form of a light and creamy tiramisu.
Host Jesse Palmer asks the 11 remaining competitors to bake a cake inspired by a winter hat to impress judges Nancy Fuller, Duff Goldman and Carla Hall. The baker that falls to the bottom of the naughty or nice list will be going home.
Winter is here and it's time to cozy up inside. The five remaining bakers 'ignite' the holiday spirit with a fiery, pre-heat dessert. Then in the main heat, they take a traditional holiday cheese board and turn it into an unusual cheesecake.
