Orange Bars with Sesame Crust
These are Molly’s orange twist on traditional lemon bars and also an ode to her admiration for all of the sesame found in Korean sweets. Bars are a Midwest dessert staple and Molly loves coming up with new recipes that are riffs on the originals. The orange in these is subtly sweet and the sesame crust makes them sing with nutty, buttery flavor.
Citrus Sorbet
Sorbet is a great, refreshing way to end a meal, especially a rich one. This sorbet celebrates citrus season with three different types of orange. Each one brings its own flavor and sweet-sour balance for a churned result with just enough bitterness, sweetness and tartness to cleanse the palate.
Mandarin Meringue Pie
Molly’s family goes hard (eating food) at Thanksgiving, so they have to have an epic dessert. This is loosely inspired by a combination of don tot, Chinese egg custard tarts, and the classic lemon meringue pie, but flavored with mandarin oranges, for subtle extra sweetness. Molly also likes to use a shortbread crust to make the pie extra buttery and indulgent for the holiday.
