Set aside the two cups of bourbon.
Mix all remaining ingredients in a deep pan. Turn on the heat to a low simmer and very carefully (don't spill any) stir in one cup of the bourbon. Add ice to the second cup of bourbon and sip while occasionally stirring the sauce.
Simmer for 1 hour, replenishing the sipping liquid as required.
