This cousin of the martini gets a holiday twist with the addition of homemade pickled cranberries. A splash of the cranberry and onion brines give the drink a pretty pink hue, making it look particularly festive. The pickled cranberries will keep for several weeks (or more) in a glass container in the fridge and are also a great addition to a cheese or charcuterie board or other cocktails. Add a few and a splash of brine to seltzer for a refreshing non-alcoholic mocktail.

Directions
Make the pickled cranberries: Combine 1/2 cup water, the vinegar, sugar, salt, coriander, juniper and orange zest in a saucepan. Simmer over medium-low heat, 2 minutes. Stir in the cranberries and return to a simmer. Remove from the heat and stir in 2 ounces vermouth. Let cool, then refrigerate overnight.
Make the cocktail: Combine the gin, cocktail onion brine, remaining 1/2 ounce vermouth and 1 teaspoon of the pickled cranberry brine in a shaker with ice. Stir to chill, then strain into a chilled coupe. Thread a few pickled cranberries and a pickled onion onto a skewer for garnish.
