These batch espresso martinis are the ultimate make-ahead party cocktail: rich espresso, smooth vodka and coffee liqueur shaken into a frothy, ice-cold drink that tastes like it’s straight from your favorite cocktail bar. Mixing them in advance means less bartending and more time with your guests — just shake with ice right before serving for that signature creamy foam on top. You can make the base for this batch of eight delicious martinis up to a day ahead.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Pour the vodka, espresso, coffee liqueur and simple syrup into a large pitcher or carafe. Cover and refrigerate until well chilled, at least 4 hours and up to 24 hours.
  2. To serve, add 4 1/2 ounces of the mixture to a cocktail shaker and top with plenty of fresh ice. Secure the lid and shake vigorously until the mixture is aerated and very well chilled (this step is important for creating the classic foam on top of the cocktail). Strain the cocktail into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with 3 coffee beans and serve immediately. Repeat as needed for up to 8 cocktails.

Cook’s Note

Brewed espresso can oxidize and lose freshness, so we recommend refrigerating the assembled cocktail for up to 24 hours but not longer. The cocktail may start tasting bitter or flat after that. Alternatively, you can freeze the mixture for up to 1 week, perfect for leftovers. Just be sure to store the martini mix in a freezer-safe container (glass containers can crack).
