These pull-apart ham and cheese sliders are a perfect crowd-friendly snack that’s easy to prep and great for just about any party. Soft, sweet Hawaiian rolls are filled with smoky ham, melty Swiss and a punchy Dijon-mayo that brings just the right amount of tang. A buttery, poppy-seed glaze makes the sliders bake up golden and caramelized and a pickle-topped toothpick holds each slider together for the perfect briny bite.

Ingredients

Directions

Special equipment:
12 toothpicks
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9-by-13-inch baking dish with foil, leaving a 2-inch overhang, and lightly spray with cooking spray.
  2. Split the attached rolls in half horizontally with a serrated knife, leaving the bottom half slightly thicker than the top half. Set the top half aside and place the bottom half in the prepared dish.
  3. Mix the mustard, mayonnaise, 1/8 teaspoon of the cayenne and a pinch of salt in a small bowl. Divide the mixture evenly between the top and bottom rolls and spread to coat.
  4. Create 12 little ham and cheese pockets to fit on each slider roll: layer a slice of ham with a slice of cheese and fold it in half, then again into quarters, tucking in the sides of the ham to create a little ham and cheese square. Repeat with the remaining ham and cheese slices. Place one onto each slider roll. Cover with the top half of the rolls.
  5. Whisk together the butter, poppy seeds, brown sugar, granulated garlic, Worcestershire, remaining 1/8 teaspoon cayenne and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a small bowl until smooth and combined. Brush the butter mixture liberally over the top of the buns. Drizzle any remaining butter over the top, then sprinkle with the onion flakes.
  6. Cover with foil and bake until the cheese is melting and beginning to caramelize on the sides, 30 to 35 minutes. Remove the foil cover and return to the oven until the top is golden and toasted, 5 to 7 minutes more.
  7. Meanwhile, thread each of 12 toothpicks with a pickle slice.
  8. Slide the sliders out of the baking dish and let sit for 5 minutes to cool slightly. Place a prepared toothpick into each slider and enjoy immediately.
