3 cups distilled white vinegar

1 cup water

2 1/2 cups sugar

1/4 cup salt

1 1/2 teaspoons whole allspice

1 (3-inch) cinnamon stick

1 1/2 teaspoons celery seeds

1 1/2 teaspoons mustard seeds

1 1/2 teaspoons whole black peppercorns


  1. Place all of the ingredients in a nonreactive saucepan, over high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat to medium and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove from the heat and cool completely. Strain the liquid and store in an airtight container.
