Crispy rice cereal treats are as American as apple pie and PB&J sandwiches. The classic chewy treats are so simple, it's easy to jazz them up for any occasion. This version is for the lovers of the popular fall flavor, pumpkin pie spice. Add a little razzle dazzle of chocolate, sprinkles and my favorite nut, and you have nostalgia and nouveau all in one sweet treat!
NEW: You can now switch to Cook Mode to keep your screen awake.
Directions
For the spice blend: In a small dry pan on medium heat, add the cinnamon, ginger, allspice, clove and nutmeg. Toast while constantly moving the spices, wafting the scent towards you. When the spices become fragrant, about 5 minutes, remove from the pan to a flat surface like a plate or cutting board to cool.
For the treats: In a large stockpot on low heat, add the butter and spice blend. Let the butter melt, then add the marshmallows and stir until they also melt. Remove from the heat and quickly stir in the cereals and nuts. Coat the bottom and sides of a 9-by-13-inch baking dish lightly with cooking spray. Press the mixture into the dish, making the top flat and even. Rest or refrigerate until cooled, about 2 hours.
To decorate: Remove the entire slab of treats to a cutting board and use a pizza cutter to make 12 to 16 equal-sized squares. Decorate with drizzles or dunks into the colored chocolate, followed quickly by a dusting of sprinkles.
