A Showstopping Kitchen
There’s one room in HGTV Dream Home 2022 we here at Food Network naturally can’t get enough of: the kitchen! Nestled in the rolling mountains of Vermont, this year’s space is a Scandinavian-style A-frame home combining modern and classic cabin vibes. Designed by the talented Brian Patrick Flynn, every room feels comfortable and well-appointed while bringing in colors and finishes that mimic the beauty of the natural surroundings. Working with a variety of open-concept spaces, this kitchen is meant for entertaining and can easily go from dining in to alfresco at a moment’s notice. Here, take a closer look at all the brilliant features.

Open Concept
Keeping the kitchen connected to the dining, living and outdoor area makes entertaining a crowd while whipping up a gourmet meal feel easy — because let’s be honest, everyone always ends up in the kitchen. Even the oversized pendant lights don’t obstruct the view thanks to their cage-like shape. The modern design ties in beautifully with the dark accent trim around the rest of the home.
Island Dreams
The secret to success for the humble kitchen island: making sure the dimensions fit in your kitchen while still providing some extra work space, storage, and dining space — this unit hits all three! You’d be surprised by how much you can fit into a conservatively sized kitchen island.
Take a Seat
An ideal spot for guests to perch while you cook, these comfortable yet streamlined stools slide underneath the countertop to keep floor space clear when they’re not in use. Bonus: Thanks to their generous backs, the stools are comfortable to sit in, turning the kitchen into an even more desirable place to eat breakfast and lunch.
Modern Dining
An emphasis on natural materials not only brings some of the landscape inside, but here in the dining room it also lets every meal shine. The waterfall-edge concrete table grounds the dining area with a soft color and texture, while leather accents add some rugged warmth around the table. A mixture of clean lines and geometric shapes, this dining room manages to feel both minimal and inviting for family and guests.
Sage Wisdom
Don’t be afraid to go green. An endlessly versatile color that works well with a myriad of finishes, it’s the ideal complement to these classic cabinets. "All you can see out every window here is foliage and evergreens," says Flynn. "So, we loved tying in the kitchen cabinets to the green spaces outside. We used it as part of our personality through the entire house."
Double the Fun
More than just a pretty finish (although matte black is classic and packs some serious staying power), double faucets at the kitchen sink serve dual purposes. One helps eliminate plastic waste by providing cool, filtered drinking water on demand. The other, a pull-down sprayer design, turns on with a simple tap so you can use your wrist or forearm to get the water going, which is especially convenient if your hands are dirty.
Smart Spacing
That awkward space above cabinets? Totally unnecessary. Smart design brought these sage cabinets all the way up to the ceiling, maximizing storage and eliminating the possibility of dust bunnies. Use the upper cabinets to store items that you want to keep safe but don’t need on a regular basis. Closed door storage keeps things dust-free and streamlined-looking thanks to a lack of visual clutter.
Go Gray
All-white kitchens might be classic, but there are other colors with the same appeal and versatility. These gray soapstone countertops look gorgeous but are also environmentally friendly, incredibly durable and easy to clean (and keep clean!). Paired with an oversized subway-tile gray backsplash, the tone-on-tone look feels fresh and unexpected.
Coffee Corner
In order to prevent your kitchen from feeling disorganized, try dividing the room into different zones based on how you use them. Here, we gathered all of the breakfast essentials in one place to simplify brewing a cup of coffee and toasting a bagel in the morning, and to keep them out of the way of the sink and stove.
Bring the Heat
Don’t be fooled by its small footprint! This KitchenAid convection oven can pull off everything the home cook needs and more. Convection offers even heating, and a steam rack lends additional moisture, which seals in more flavor for all of your home-cooked dishes. It’s proof positive that you don’t need a massive range to serve up a satisfying spread.
Cook for a Crowd
Cooking for a crowd just got easier with this griddle stovetop. An ample, evenly heated surface lets you make more pancakes, French toast, grilled cheese, and other delicious dishes than a burner alone. It allows everyone to get their food fast and hot...even the cook!
It's a Wash
A dishwasher is a godsend in the kitchen, especially when you’re entertaining. This KitchenAid model automatically adapts to what’s in a load and runs so quietly that you’ll barely know it’s on. Plus, its front is made of fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, meaning less stubborn smudges to clean.
Be Our Guest
Empowering guests to help themselves during their stay just got easier with this beautiful kitchenette, which allows early risers to make their own coffee and breakfast. "We wanted to think about how people are using their homes these days," says Flynn. "A lot of people are welcoming their parents into their homes, or younger kids in their 20s are returning home, so this is our take on a small functioning apartment within the house."
Stock Up!
An additional guest-friendly kitchenette should be well stocked. It lets people help themselves to food and drinks without having to ask the host and serves as another storage spot outside of the main kitchen for bulky items like teas, drinks and on-the-go snacks. Plus, flattering open shelving offers extra space for mugs and dishes.
Artful Outdoor Entertaining
An A-frame outdoor table made with teak is not only durable enough to stand up to the elements, but it also pairs perfectly with the style of this mountain retreat. The sides and cross bar along the top of the table make it easy to hang a floral installation or any beautiful accent piece, adding a true sense of occasion to eating alfresco — even if it’s just a casual weekend dinner.
Family Style
It hardly seems fair to call this extensive outdoor kitchen a grill. It’s so much more than that! The home’s privacy and location truly turn the outdoor spaces into extensions of indoor living. A built-in grill is so much easier to maintain and keep clean when it’s protected from the elements. Plus, it allows you to host a cookout at a moment’s notice.
Counter Culture
A beautiful concrete countertop connects the space between the grill and a stainless-steel farm-style sink, creating ample work space where you can meal prep without having to run back inside to use the kitchen sink. The use of the same colors and materials, like concrete, in the open-concept interior and the outdoor areas helps unify these two spaces.
Best Seat in the House
A seating area next to the covered outdoor kitchen means no one gets left out of the conversation. It keeps guests out of the way of the prep and grilling, while still making them feel included in the process. It’s the ideal balance for entertaining!
All Fired Up
What’s better than one fire pit in a home? The answer is two. Thanks to the ample outdoor space (complete with sweeping mountain views), there is room for two gas fire pits — which means no logs or mess — one in the front of the house and one in the back. It turns both yards into extensions of the living space, making it easy to entertain family and friends.
Family Fun
Built-in stone seating and a gas-powered fire pit makes impromptu entertaining a breeze. Instead of setting up and cleaning off outdoor furniture, you can simply welcome everyone to get comfortable and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. When rooms, even outdoor ones like this, feel accessible, people use them more.
