For anyone privy to the world of fun cooking videos and Internet-famous food personalities, Molly Baz is ubiquitous with easily digestible recipes. Just check out her best-selling cookbook Cook this Book where you’ll find a love of Caesar salads and salt. Most recently, she’s also showing off her beautiful kitchen where she films her YouTube video series, Hit the Kitch. If you’ve watched her videos in awe of the perfect, buttery shade of her kitchen cabinets, cozy (yet stylish) aprons and primary-color-focused cookware, you’ll be happy to know that her aesthetic can soon grace your kitchen.
In collaboration with Crate & Barrel, Molly Baz is launching a 58-piece kitchen collection, which includes bowls, glassware, serving trays and cutting boards — and even Molly’s signature cross-back apron in fun, bold colors. In anticipation of this launch, we talked with Molly about what she is hoping this collection will add to your kitchen and which piece you absolutely need.

Food Network: What was the inspiration behind the design and colors?
Molly Baz: This collection was designed to be highly functional in any and all kitchens and living spaces, with an eye towards bringing beauty, fun and levity into those spaces wherever possible. There are two sides to the line — the tools and equipment you’d use while prepping and cooking, and those you’d use for serving, but I wanted to be sure that both sides of the collection felt like objects you would want on display in your house. So often we see cookware and kitchen gear that is so utilitarian that it feels like it belongs either in its prep drawers or in the dishwasher after use. I thought, why not create tools that you’d be proud to leave out on your countertop instead? Measuring cups and spoons, cutting boards and prep bowls that are design minded and therefore visually additive to the home.
The colors of the line, which are the primaries, are the colors of my brand and were very specifically chosen as such because to me they represent education — when you’re in grade school the first toys you interact with and colors you learn are the primaries. Because teaching is at the core of what I do, it felt only right to symbolically represent that in the colors of my brand.
FN: What’s your favorite piece in this new collection?
MB: I cannot answer this! But I will anyway! It’s a different answer every day, but right now I am fixated on our two-tiered produce tower. Not only is it a stunning fruit basket or produce display piece, but last week at an event, we stuffed it with flowers and used it as a sculptural vase of sorts. It made me so very happy to see it put to use in a non-traditional way, and I hope that many of the products in the line are flexible enough to do so. The ice bucket for example, has been used in my household as a warming and serving bucket for fried chicken! Straight on the table, just like that.
FN: What piece do you think is a must-have?
MB: The Cae Sal bowl! It’s the world’s largest salad bowl and absolutely perfect for a homemade caesar salad, which is, in my opinion, a dish that everyone should make at least once! (You can find my recipe in my first cookbook, Cook This Book.) We also designed these gorgeous short handled wooden salad servers that make tossing the salad SO much easier than the standard long handled ones. Why do those even exist? I do not know!
FN: What are you hoping this line will offer consumers?
MB: I wanted this collection to touch every single type of person in some way. Whether you’re an avid home cook or someone who prefers to do takeout, this line will serve you. Cooks will love the kitchen gear, and order-iners can and should always plate their takeout — we’ve got all the serving ware, platters and plates you’d need.
I also maintain the philosophy that cooking absolutely has to be fun if any single person is going to be willing to commit to doing it on the regular. I try to convey that philosophy through my cookbooks, but realized that fun can extend far beyond the pages of a book. I tried to create a collection of items that were whimsical, colorful and lighthearted with the hopes that they would make stepping into the kitchen a little less stressful for everyone.
FN: What’s coming next for you?
MB: My next cookbook, More is More will be released on October 10th. I’ve been working on it for about two years now. It’s a book that teaches the very valuable skill of loosening up in the kitchen and cooking with abandon. Whereas my first cookbook was very technique driven and prescriptive, this one is about learning to let go a bit, and really taste and tweak your way through your meals. It’s about learning how to utilize all the elements of a single ingredient or treat ingredients in many different ways and to cook food that YOU, the cook, think tastes really great.
