Also known as TikTok cinnamon rolls, this viral recipe lives up to the digital hype. Cinnamon rolls baked in cream are sweet, fluffy, and stay soft long after they come out of the oven, thanks to a few clever tweaks by the Food Network Kitchen team.

How to Make Cinnamon Rolls Baked In Cream

Rather than starting with homemade cinnamon rolls, Food Network Kitchen’s canned cinnamon rolls hack invites you to customize store-bought pastry.

Use heavy cream. Making cinnamon rolls with heavy whipping cream in the pan creates steam and enriches the pastry as it cooks, so the ooey-gooey cinnamon rolls turn out tender and flavorful. In the cinnamon roll icing, the high fat content of the cream caramelizes with the brown sugar and the thick syrup clings to each bun.

Don’t skip the salt. After several tests, the Food Network Kitchen team adjusted the amount of brown sugar in the syrup for the TikTok cinnamon rolls and added a pinch of salt to keep the flavors balanced.

Try different canned cinnamon rolls. Our recipe developers tested these cinnamon rolls baked in cream using Pillsbury Original Cinnamon Rolls and Pillsbury Grands. Both worked, but our team preferred the bakery-style size and texture of Pillsbury Grands.

Switch up the pan. Use an 8-inch round baking pan for tall and fluffy cinnamon rolls. A 9-inch cake pan will result in wider buns with more surface area. To double the recipe, bake the rolled cinnamon rolls in two round cake pans or one 9-by-13-inch baking dish.

Customize the flavor and toppings. Add a pinch of allspice or cardamom to the brown sugar-butter mixture, or sprinkle flaky sea salt onto the cinnamon roll icing.

How to Store Cinnamon Rolls Baked in Cream

Store the cinnamon rolls baked in cream in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days, or in the fridge for up to five days.

To reheat, put the TikTok cinnamon rolls in a buttered cake pan or baking dish and bake for 10 to 15 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Other Recipes With Heavy Cream

If you have leftover cream after making this TikTok cinnamon rolls recipe, put it to use in everything from weeknight pasta dishes to chocolate desserts. Here are some other Food Network Kitchen recipes with heavy whipping cream.

We tested the viral TikTok method of baking store-bought cinnamon rolls in heavy cream with a buttery brown sugar topping—and it really is worth the hype. In a side-by-side comparison with rolls baked straight from the package, the cream-baked version rose taller, baked more evenly and stayed far softer. The cream at the bottom of the pan bubbles and steams as it heats, infusing the rolls with moisture and richness. At the same time, its fats and sugars caramelize into a syrupy layer that clings to the base of each roll. Paired with the brown sugar–butter mixture spooned over before baking, the result is an ooey-gooey cinnamon roll that leans into sticky bun territory. We also fine-tuned the viral recipe: the original glaze calls for twice as much brown sugar as butter, which we found overly sweet when combined with the packaged icing. Our even ratio of butter to brown sugar, plus a pinch of salt, hits the perfect balance. For extra flair, we highly recommend sprinkling the iced rolls with flaky salt for a crunchy, salty contrast that further tames the sweetness. This recipe works with both Pillsbury Original Cinnamon Rolls and Pillsbury Grands! Cinnamon Rolls, though we prefer the Grands! for their bakery-style size and texture. Bake this in an 8-inch round baking pan for tall and fluffy rolls or a 9-inch cake pan for wider rolls with more surface area. You can easily double the recipe—bake in two round cake pans or one 9-by-13-inch baking dish—and serve to a crowd.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Coat an 8- or 9-inch round baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Pour 1/2 cup of the heavy cream into the bottom of the pan, then arrange the cinnamon rolls in the cream.
  3. Heat the butter and brown sugar in a small skillet over medium-low heat until melted and smooth, about 2 minutes. Add a large pinch of kosher salt and the remaining 2 tablespoons heavy cream and whisk to combine. Pour evenly over top of the cinnamon rolls.
  4. Bake until the rolls are golden brown on top and bubbling at the sides, 25 to 30 minutes. Top with the packaged icing from the cinnamon roll can, followed by a sprinkle of flaky salt, if desired. Spoon any brown sugar glaze from the bottom of the pan over the rolls as you serve them.
