Pour half of the ginger ale into ice cube trays, add a few cranberries to each compartment and freeze until almost solid, at least 4 hours.

Add the cranberry juice, champagne, lemon juice, remaining ginger ale and vodka if using to a punch bowl and stir to combine. Add the ginger ale-cranberry ice cubes and sliced oranges to the punch.

Cook's Note

Freezing ginger ale into ice cubes prevents the punch from becoming watery.
