This trip, Guy's toppin' off some righteous dishes with all kinds of sauce. In Cincinnati, the funky cafe putting their creative spin on barbecue chicken and vegan chili. In Boston, the neighborhood spot spicing up everything from lemongrass chicken to sloppy Joe's with some killer specialty sauces. And in Jackson, Wyo., the century-old log cabin housing an eclectic menu of totally homemade standouts, like scratch-made ramen and pork ragu.
This time, Guy Fieri is checking out a mix of familiar places and new faces. In Miami, Guy and a couple buddies hit up a Haitian place for the first time, and the fried pork and pikliz do not disappoint. Then, in Oakland, a vegan version of Creole classics like gator bites and jambalaya, and, in Blawnox, Pa., an old school dive still dishin' out heaping helpings of hearty home cooking.
The chefs open the appetizer basket to find vegan franks and three other meatless ingredients and have to work frantically to compose appetizers in 20 minutes. Then in the entree round, the judges wonder if one chef's strange decision about what to throw into the blender will be a blunder or a surprise success. Then the finalists find a green soda and a Russian sweet in their dessert baskets.
