A few weeks ago, Butterball alerted us all that, based on a nationwide survey of U.S. adults it had conducted, the most important thing for Thanksgiving guests to do was to help the hosts clean up.

“The vast majority of hosts (85%) would like guests to pitch in on the big day,” we reported. “However, a far lower number (38%) ask for the help they need. And nearly half of hosts (49%) say they most need help with the final cleanup after the meal.”

Additionally, the survey found, 65% of hosts say they would love to get help with cleanup at the push of a button. And while help with Thanksgiving cleanup at the push of a button seemed like a fantasy just a few weeks ago, Butterball is now making it a reality.

The turkey brand is launching a new, limited-edition turkey-shaped device, the Butterball Buddy, which aims to give guests at a Thanksgiving gathering “a way to pitch in before hosts have to ask.” And the devices are free.

What is the Butterball Buddy?

Described as a “first-of-its-kind, turkey-shaped retro notification device that encourages guests to lend a hand” without being asked, the handheld, Butterball-blue doohickey can be passed from guest to guest around the Thanksgiving table.

“When it chimes and vibrates, the person holding it receives an actionable task – tailored and timed to follow the rhythm of Thanksgiving Day – before, during and after the meal,” the brand says.

Once one task is accepted and completed, the device can be passed along again in order to continue the help, turning guests' good intentions into action with preprogrammed prompts encouraging them to do things like set the table or clear and clean the dishes. The prompts are based on feedback gleaned from Butterball’s survey and its toll-free Butterball Turkey Talk-Line.

The Butterball Buddy also includes contact information for the Talk-Line, staffed with experts ready to answer questions about turkey prep, thawing and cooking, and can be used beyond Thanksgiving as a kitchen timer.

How can you get a Butterball Buddy?

The devices will be available for free in three drops, each at 1 p.m. ET on the first three Mondays in November. That means there are two drops — 1 p.m. ET on November 9 and November 16 — to go. Visit www.ButterballBuddy.com to order one, while supplies last.

How else is Butterball helping hosts this Thanksgiving?

Butterball's Turkey Talk-Line is offering holiday help now through December 24. You can call 1-800-BUTTERBALL, text 844-877-3456, get in touch via Butterball’s social media channels, or email or chat live with the Talk-Line experts via Butterball.com.

“For 45 years, the Butterball Turkey Talk-Line has been a trusted resource providing hosts the turkey expertise they need for the big day,” Valerie Saint Sing, seasonal senior brand manager at Butterball, says in a statement.

This year’s addition of the Butterball Buddy “gamifies the Thanksgiving experience and gives guests an easy way to pitch in before the host has to ask,” Saint Sing adds. “During the holidays, Butterball is all about helping hosts spend less time managing the day and more time enjoying it with friends and family.”
