A cast-iron skillet is a kitchen workhorse. You can make everything from pizza to cookies in them and, if you treat them right, they’ll last you a lifetime — maybe even longer. That’s why we weren’t surprised to hear this Lodge 10.25-Inch Cast Iron Skillet is a number-one best seller on Amazon with 115,000 reviews and counting, and a 4.5-star rating.

For one thing, take a look at the price. For less than $15, you could be just a day away (yup, it’s Prime eligible) from searing a juicy steak. Let’s be honest, the price of the pan is probably less than you’ll spend on that cut of meat anyway. On top of that, the pan comes pre-seasoned, ready for stovetop or oven use upon arrival. We also love using cast iron on the grill!

Amazon reviewers love it, too.

One review raved, “This pan never leaves the stove. I use it at least once a day, it is so versatile.”

“I am really glad I took a chance and got this pan. Once your cast iron is well seasoned it is non-stick. I paid about $15.00 for this skillet and five years, 7 months later it is in perfect condition and likely will never need replacing,” said another.

In our testing, we found the Lodge cast iron skillet performed just as Amazon shoppers promised. Our cornbread baked evenly, steak seared to perfection and even eggs didn't stick the way they did to other pans. Our tester also found the pour spouts to be particularly helpful when discarding extra fat or oil from the pan during seasoning. Plus, the price truly cannot be beat. There's a reason chefs swear by one of these in their home and restaurant kitchens.

Before you jump right in, keep in mind cast-iron cooking requires a bit of prep work. Many reviewers claim the pan did not come seasoned enough, meaning everything will stick to it upon first use. You’ll want to keep this Food Network Kitchen how-to for seasoning cast iron handy when you receive your package.

We love this smaller Lodge skillet for individual portions and even baking. Can't you just picture a warm chocolate chip cookie with vanilla ice cream in there?

$105.00

In our pizza stone and steel testing, we found Lodge's pizza stone outperformed all others in the test. We also love that because this pan is cast iron it can be used in the oven and on the grill, and is pretty easy to clean.

$85

While this wok is on the heavier side, we could see this model being ideal for cooking over a campfire. Our tester found he could still produce wok hei (the iconic flavor you'll find in Asian stir-fry dishes) even without the mobility of a carbon steel wok.
