The Surprising Ina Dish Taylor Swift Makes for Parties
Plus, the one kitchen tool she can’t live without.
In a recent Elle interview, Taylor Swift shared the 30 things she learned before 30. One is to have three back-pocket recipes for a dinner party. TBH we’re not surprised that one of Ina Garten’s recipes is on Taylor Swift’s short list of party-worthy plates. The two cooked together for a Food Network Magazine photoshoot and Ina loves her music. We are surprised by the one she chose though.
We tend to imagine celebrities’ lives in a surreal light. We think they eat caviar for breakfast on fine China and that their dinner parties include unicorns and a plethora of sparkly things. But at a Taylor Swift party, you could be dining on good ol' spaghetti and meatballs a la the Contessa. Yep, this favorite Ina recipe is one of Taylor’s go-to dishes.
Ina’s Real Spaghetti and Meatballs recipe is a straight-forward take on the classic, except for maybe her touch of nutmeg in the meat mixture. Taylor uses only ground meat instead of the pork-veal-beef blend that Ina uses. The sauce is simple but fortified with a hefty glug of good red wine and finished with fresh parsley. Ina’s Spaghetti and Meatballs recipe is a perfect example of comfort food. What this says about Taylor, we imagine, is that she wants her friends to feel welcome at a dinner party, eschewing the fancy for fun and approachable. As Ina says, “When you cook, everyone shows up, and that's when the fun starts!”
Taylor's last bit of cooking advice is one everyone should follow. “Getting a garlic crusher is a whole game changer,” she says. Has anyone really been able to master crushing garlic with the side of a knife with salt? We'll leave that to the pros.
