McCormick’s New Blueberry Extract Means You Can Taste Summer Year Round

If you’ve ever bitten into something — a pancake, waffle or muffin, perhaps — and said to yourself, “This is good, but it would be even better if it tasted more like blueberry,” McCormick has excellent news for you: It’s set to launch a new blueberry flavored specialty extract.
With a release pegged to National Blueberry Day, on July 8, new McCormick Blueberry Extract is “a must-have for elevating your summer sweets,” and perfect for “hopping on the viral ‘Home Café trend’” the pantry-item stalwart says. (That trend, for those not paying attention, is about styling your kitchen or living room as if it were a café, complete with things like carefully arranged and labeled baked goods, handwritten menu boards, branded napkins and stickers, barista-level beverages and people-pleasing playlists. Videos showcasing these endeavors have racked up millions of views on TikTok.)
“Extracts are your shortcut to endless recipe inspiration — from blueberry muffins, pancakes, and lemonades to fun twists like blueberry-vanilla cold foam for your coffee,” McCormick says in an email. The brand recommends pairing blueberry extract with other flavors in its extract lineup, including banana, pure mint, strawberry and pure vanilla.
On its Amazon product page, where a one-fluid-ounce bottle is currently priced at $4.29, the extract promises to provide a “bright, ripened blueberry flavor” that will reliably enhance everything from cookies, cakes and pies to pancakes, waffles, frostings and quick breads to cookie dough, homemade ice cream, cheesecake and icing.
It can also add a “pop of fruitiness” to lemonades, spritzes and smoothies, cocktails and mocktails, and milkshakes.
Though not officially launching until July 8, the early reviews are already rolling in and are decidedly favorable — with people saying it upped their coffee, syrup, baked good and lemonade game.
“It’s overall a tasty little flavor to bring certain things a splash of blueberry flavor,” one commenter wrote.
