Mussel and Mozzarella Skewers

24 mussels, steamed and removed from shells

1 ball mozzarella cheese, cubed 

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1 large egg, beaten with salt

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

Olive oil, for frying

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper


  1. Skewer 2 mussels and 2 mozzarella cubes on a toothpick, alternating, and then repeat with the remaining mussels and mozzarella. Dredge the skewers in the flour, followed by the egg wash, and then in the breadcrumbs. Fry in olive oil until golden, and then season with salt and pepper.
