Adding chile or spice to a cocktail is a popular trend, with the combination of heat and sweetness being both unexpected and enjoyable. Here, Ree uses slices of jalapeño, which has a good balance of spice intensity and flavor for a cocktail.
Add the blackberries, jalapeño slices and simple syrup to the bottom of a 16-ounce mason jar.
Using the back of a wooden spoon, muddle the berries and jalapeño slices into the simple syrup.
Add the orange juice and tequila. Top with a cup of ice. Put the lid on and shake to combine. Remove the lid and add more ice if desired. Top with the soda water.
Skewer the remaining blackberries and jalapeño slices, alternating between the two. Top the glass and enjoy.
