The competition shifts, and every chef is forced to rely on themselves like never before. To locate their baskets, the chefs must navigate the dense jungle using only a compass, where every wrong turn costs valuable time in the kitchen. In round one, each chef is pushed to define their point of view, creating a dish that reflects both creativity and independence under pressure. In the Gauntlet, the two lowest-performing chefs face off in a high-stakes elimination where early obstacles slow their momentum, and a demanding protein tests their control. Who will rise to meet the moment, and who will be chopped?
In this preliminary battle of an unprecedented tournament, which challenges couples to compete together, married pairs attempt to show that they're ready to rock the baskets as teams! But are their relationships tough enough to weather three rounds in the Chopped kitchen? A fancy item in the appetizer basket requires careful handling. A personalized ingredient in the entrée basket brings a smile, but things get serious when more than one couple wants access to the deep fryer. Then, two ambitious pairs attempt to wow the judges with their desserts, but only one team can be deemed worthy of moving on to the $50,000 finale fight.
Four returning losers -- chefs who made big mistakes in their first competition -- are dead set on not repeating history in the Chopped Kitchen. Having practiced and prepared to do better, the chefs open up the appetizer basket and fight to stay in it: but one pulpo and fava bean appetizer will not be good enough. Then, in the entree round, the chefs have to stay sharp to cook with cactus and manage their time well. And when the two finalists find a classic cookie and a tangy fruit in the dessert basket, make no mistake both of these former losers really want to win it!
The judges savor a chance to slip into the Chopped Kitchen to cook after hours! In round one, it's brine time for Marc Murphy, Geoffrey Zakarian and Alex Guarnaschelli, who take on ingredients from a pickle-themed competition. Then, Amanda Freitag, Marcus Samuelsson and Alex peel, smash and sear their way through a potato-themed round two, while Ted Allen has some fun with a tater imitator. In a chocolate-themed round three, Amanda sets out to make a gourmet ice cream sandwich, while Maneet Chauhan has ambitious plans to make baked Alaska -- but will it be possible to plate perfect desserts before the clock runs out?
Hearty, wholesome meat and potatoes! The baskets for this battle all feature the classic comfort-food combo, and the judges hope to get dishes that take the theme in surprising new directions. In the first round, the chefs are challenged to make appropriately sized appetizers out of a basket that has mighty and meaty portions. When the competitors dig into the entrée basket and see a bizarre savory cake, they all decide to take it in a similar direction. Then, it's anybody's guess what's in store for the final two chefs in a meat-and-taters dessert round!
