Chipotle Has the Perfect Gift for That Friend Who Hates Cilantro
It’s not their fault the green herb tastes like soap.

Cilantro is among the most divisive of herbs. Some love to dice it into their guacamole or enchiladas, while others can’t stand any of it anywhere near their food. It’s not just a matter of personal preference, either. It’s estimated that 4-14 percent of the human population is genetically disposed to taste the flavor of soap when eating cilantro.
As many of their menu items tend to embrace cilantro – everything from rice to guac! – Chipotle has sometimes had fun with this controversial topic. The chain has often shared teasing social media messages in a bit of tongue-in-cheek fun. But then the fun took a more interesting turn. What if cilantro didn’t taste like soap, but actually was soap? Chipotle once teased this, too, on their Instagram. But now, it’s a reality.
Cilantro Soap will be exclusively available for purchase on chipotlegoods.com while supplies last, and cilantro fans will get rewards for being adventurous enough to give it a try. From December 2 through December 8, Chipotle Rewards members will be eligible to collect an exclusive Cilantro Lover badge by ordering at least one menu item made with the green herb.

“Our Cilantro Soap plays into a larger trend of turning digital moments into real life experiences,” said Chris Brandt, Chief Marketing Officer, in a press release. “Every Chipotle fan, regardless of which side of the great cilantro debate they’re on, can appreciate this fan-inspired gift.” So, if you do think cilantro tastes like soap? You may want to bring a cilantro-loving friend with you when you go out to grab lunch.
