Do you think your playlist is the best playlist? Probably we all do. But now you have a chance at outside validation — and the impressive title of ‘Chief Playlist Officer.’

Peet’s Coffee is launching a nationwide search for someone to fill its first-ever Chief Playlist Officer role. The person selected to fill the role will be entrusted with the job of “curating a reset playlist” that will help people “power through the dreaded afternoon crash.” They’ll also get an all-expenses-paid, four-day trip to a Chicago music festival for them and a guest.

The search also marks the national rollout of the chain’s new half-caffeine blend, Middle Ground. It’s also concurrent with the brand's new summer coffee-bar menu, featuring Sparkling Energy Drinks and Protein Oat Lattes.

Why is Peet’s looking for a Chief Playlist Officer?

The coffee chain is highlighting music, alongside coffee, as a method of enjoying an afternoon pick-me-up.

The brand’s new half-caff blend, Middle Ground, is calibrated to provide a midday boost without overdoing it on the caffeine. The blend features a “balance of high-quality, water-processed decaf Colombian beans with regular beans from Brazil” that “has been crafted to deliver smooth, balanced energy with less caffeine and all the flavor,” Peet’s says.

The search for the Chief Playlist Officer, which the brand calls “the most coveted role of the summer” (although Hidden Valley is giving it some competition), is being launched in celebration of the new blend. Because music can — like coffee — provide motivation, reduce mental fatigue and buoy flagging performance, Peet’s is asking music-loving coffee drinkers across the country to submit their proposals for the ultimate "Middle Ground Mix,” described as a “personally curated playlist designed to turn up the energy, sharpen focus and provide a soundtrack for the final hours of the workday.”

“The morning coffee ritual to set the day's rhythm is well established — but the 3 p.m. crash is when people also need a boost," Kristina Roach, V.P. of marketing at Peet's Coffee, says in a news release. "With our new half-caff offering, Middle Ground, we wanted to create a more balanced coffee occasion that helps people recharge and keep their momentum with less caffeine. The search for a Chief Playlist Officer let us introduce our new coffee alongside, another science-backed remedy to restore energy — music.”

How can you apply to be Peet’s Chief Playlist Officer?

Now through June 30, U.S. residents apply for the honorary role online at www.peetscpo.com. To be considered, you must submit:

  • Your ultimate afternoon ‘Middle Ground Mix’ playlist “designed to recharge energy and boost momentum during the 3 p.m. slump.”
  • A brief explanation as to why you deserve the twin titles of Peet's "Chief Playlist Officer" and "Head of Half-Caff.”
  • Your selection of one song that “always gets [you] moving whenever it comes on and why.”

What rewards will Peet’s Chief Playlist Officer enjoy?

For starters, the competition winner will snag bragging rights, the title of Peet's first-ever Chief Playlist Officer and the satisfaction of Peet’s customers enjoying their carefully curated pick-me-up playlist.

“The winning playlist will be featured as the official 3 p.m. in-coffee-bar soundtrack nationwide across Peet's locations,” the brand promises.

What’s more, the person selected as Peet’s Chief Playlist Officer will receive an all-expenses-paid trip for two to Chicago to see a certain festival with performances by top music acts including Olivia Dean, Charlie XCX, Lorde, Tate McRae and John Summit, among others.

The seasonal lineup includes two sparkling energy drinks made with “plant-derived caffeine” to provide a “refreshing boost”:

It also includes two protein oat lattes, each offering about 30 grams of protein:
