It’s no secret that I love cheese. But name a favorite? That's like picking a favorite kid; usually any slice, square or shredded spoonful (hey, don't judge) will put a smile on my face. Everything changed, though, when I tried Cathedral City Cheddar.
Produced by the only Cheddar maker to hold the coveted Royal Warrant, which means it’s supplied to Her Majesty The Queen’s Household, Cathedral City cheese is truly unlike any other I’ve ever eaten — and now you, too, can have the same amazing experience, without having to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
That’s right: The U.K.'s No. 1 Cheddar cheese is now available in the United States, and retailers carrying the beloved brand include Amazon, Harris Teeter, Price Chopper, Weis, Shaw’s, Albertson’s, Woodman’s, Mariano’s and Piggly Wiggly. American shoppers can treat themselves to three delicious varietals, Mature, Extra Mature and Vintage (but there is no real reason to stop at one!).
All three are made at the multi-award-winning Davidstow creamery in Cornwall and with the finest ingredients. Think 100% British milk from local farms. If I had to pick which you should try first, though? The rich and creamy mature English, with a sharp bite that pairs as well with crackers and pretzels as it does grapes and apples, tops my list. My husband and I snack on it straight from the fridge before dinner, and I’m already thinking of all the delicious ways I can use it this holiday season. Grate it into a hearty mac and cheese? Pulse it into fluffy biscuits? Make it the centerpiece of a beautiful cheese board? The options are endless.
