I Tried the O-M-Cheese-adilla Burger, and It's a Cheese Lover's Dream

I have fond memories going to Applebee's in college for happy hour to enjoy half-price appetizers and discounted drinks. My go-to order was boneless wings and spinach and artichoke dip. Now, I hadn't been to an Applebee's in nearly five years — until last week, when I heard the chain added the O-M-Cheese-adilla Burger to its menu.

“People just love cheese and excess cheese is out of control right now, so we wanted to do it our own way,” Michelle Chin, Applebee’s CMO, says in a press release. “We know people like to play with their food, and so subsequently, the O-M-Cheese-adilla Burger gives you the opportunity to do that, share it with someone from across the table, and pair it with a great cocktail to make it a complete memorable experience.”

I'm one of those people who absolutely loves cheese in any form and wanted to get my hands on this burger ASAP — and that's exactly what I did. Was it worth the hype?

What is Applebee's O-M-Cheese-adilla Burger?

The O-M-Cheese-adilla Burger is exactly what it sounds like — a burger loaded with lots (and lots) of cheese. If you're a fan of Applebee's, then you've probably had the quesadilla burger or the original O-M-Cheese Burger, which debuted in January.

This new version — part burger, part quesadilla, made with bacon and pepper Jack cheese — is served in a sizzling skillet of molten queso and topped with melted cheddar, alongside white corn tortilla chips, house-made pico de gallo and cilantro.

My honest review of the Applebee's O-M-Cheese-adilla Burger:

As someone who loves cheese, I had a feeling I was going to absolutely love this — and my prediction was right.

It arrived at my table in a piping hot skillet, and the cheese was still bubbling. At first glance, it looked more like a taco than a burger because the quesadilla serves as the bun. It can still be eaten and enjoyed in the same handheld fashion. I would recommend using a fork if you don't want to get your hands all cheesy, but I think that's part of the experience.

The meat itself was pretty good, but the cheese was the shining star in this dish. It was warm, gooey and creamy. Looking back, I probably could have asked for more to dunk it into, but that's just a reason to go back.

I could have done without the tortilla chips on the side since I was so full and didn't have enough room to stomach them, and I also wish I had asked for it without cilantro, but those weren't dealbreakers by any means.

I'd highly recommend trying this on your next Applebee's run because it's quite tasty and perfect for cheese enthusiasts.

Aside from the burger, you'll also find the O-M-Cheese Chicken Nachos as a new appetizer on the menu. I didn't get a chance to try them, but from the looks of them on the table next to mine, it's another take on the new cheesy burger, this time in nacho form. It has chips topped with chipotle lime chicken, sour cream, guacamole, pico, jalapeños and cilantro, served over the signature O-M-Cheese molten queso skillet with a side of chips.

Where can you get the O-M-Cheeseadilla Burger?

You can find the O-M-Cheese-adilla Burger on Applebee's 2-for-$25 menu, which means you can go with a friend and get one appetizer and two entrees for only $25. That's not a price point you see very often on menus at restaurants these days. Both of you can order the O-M-Cheese-adilla Burger, or one of you can opt for the Fiesta Lime Chicken or the Californian Grilled Chicken Salad if you're looking for a healthier alternative.
