1/2 cup brandy

1/2 cup amontillado sherry 

1/4 cup fresh lemon juice 

1/4 cup simple syrup, or more to taste (see Cook's Note)

2 shots orange-flavored liqueur, such as Cointreau 

2 shots ruby port 

Lemon slices

Orange slices

One 750-ml bottle sparkling wine, well chilled 

Orange-flavored club soda, well chilled, for topping off

Pomegranate seeds, for garnish 


  1. Mix together the brandy, sherry, lemon juice, simple syrup, liqueur, port and some lemon and orange slices in a festive pitcher. Cover and chill for at least 1 hour and up to 24 hours. Right before serving, add the sparkling wine.
  2. To serve, fill ice-filled festive holiday glasses three-quarters full with punch, then top off with club soda. Garnish with some of the soaked lemons and a few pomegranate seeds. 

Cook’s Note

To make simple syrup, boil equal parts sugar and water in a saucepan until the sugar is dissolved. Let cool completely before using.
