It's holiday time on Chopped! The competitors are challenged to stay in the spirit of the season throughout the meal. In the appetizer round the chefs, not-so-gingerly, take down some gingerbread houses. And adrenaline runs so high that one chef does not realize that something has gone very wrong with his dish until it is too late. Then, in the entree round, a prized piece of meat and a beautiful vegetable have the makings of a great main dish, but a sweet surprise in the basket may present "ye old yuletide" pitfall for the chefs. Robert Irvine goes to Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California for a mission in paradise. After 2020 put a damper on the small island's tourism season, Robert is called to ring in the new season and celebrate the island getting back on its feet. He needs to make a celebratory meal for 75 locals, but every dish must be handheld and include either bison or seafood -- two of the island's most revered ingredients. After building his own kitchen and braving the open ocean in a kayak, Robert gets pulled in one more direction: He must help a local restaurant open with a bang, Restaurant: Impossible-style. With everything on his plate, Robert struggles to finish this dinner in time and not let down the locals.
Guy Fieri and his family's time on the Big Island is coming to an end, and there's no rest for the weary -- at least not when there's camp-cooking, epic farm-touring and old-school prawn-catching to do. They also head back out into the ocean -- without tanks this time -- to try their luck at spearfishing. Then, it's off to Oahu, where Guy, Hunter and Jules get inked the traditional, hand-tapped, Polynesian way. They dig into one of Guy's favorite meals at a bowling alley, and the family joins forces at Pearl Harbor to cook a Mexican lunch for hundreds of troops as a big "mahalo" for their service. The adventure is capped off with a surprise submarine tour for Guy's Navy vet dad.
Guy Fieri's son Hunter has grown up on Triple-D and Guy's Big Bite. After graduating high school, he and Guy are taking a month-long trek through Europe to dive into the world of culture and cuisine. From authentic gyro preparation in Greece to the intricate croissant process in France, they meet the passionate people carrying on traditional techniques. And whether it's making gelato or fish and chips, Hunter is put to work as the duo eats their way from Italy to Germany and England to Spain, while also sharing amazing meals with family and friends. On top of all the food, there's no shortage of adventure with lobster fishing, sheep milking, glass blowing, and even a little lederhosen fashion show.
The Newseum is Washington DC's newest museum that chronicles history through the eyes of journalists, photographers and news media. Robert receives his mission via 40 foot LED screen at the Newseum by the noted newsman David Gregory. For this mission Robert has to prepare a news worthy meal in eight hours for 300 people based on four major food events in American history: early Thanksgiving, WWI food shortages, the invention of TV dinners, and the 1961 publication of Julia Child's 'Mastering the Art of French Cooking'. Along with food historian Francine Segan, and the Newseums' Emily Nicholson, Robert must create a historical menu spanning all of those diverse eras. The recipes for this episode are not yet available.
